GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research, in association with SPIC MACAY organized a splendid cultural evening on February 9, 2019 under the esteemed guidance of Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Vice Chairman, GL Bajaj Educational institutions and in the dignified presence of Smt. Mahua Shankar, an internationally acclaimed Kathak Danseuse; Mr. Ashish Patel, Managing Director, MorganFranklin Consulting, McLean, VA, USA and Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director General, GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research with a motive to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young minds to imbibe the values embedded in it.
Dr. Urvashi Makkar, Director General, GLBIMR, along with the artists from SPIC MACAY inaugurated the grand event with evoking Goddess Saraswati. Smt. Mahua Shankar, disciple of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, from Lucknow Gharana, was the lead performer of the event, accompanied with leading Tabla artist, Pt. Mithilesh Kumar Jha, Eminent Vocalist & Harmonium player Janaab Shuheb Hasan, Sarangi player, Ustad Murad Ali Khan and Padhant artist, Ms. Nupur Shankar. Dr Makkar in her inaugural remarks emphasized that, Indian Classical Dance & Music is one of the most expressive forms of art, and it is imperative for the students to experience the rich Indian Cultural Heritage.
Smt. Mahua Shankar, one of India’s foremost exponents of the Lucknow Gharana , trained under the legendary Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, is an extraordinary young dancer, adding subtle innovations to the Kathak repertoire while preserving the tenets of the classical style. A mesmerizing performance including various forms of Kathak, by Smt Mahua Shankar, left the audience awe struck & spell bounded. More than 300 people including, several eminent personalities from Administration, Academia, Corporate, Politics and Media graced the enthralling event with their presence.
GLBIMR presented a gala amalgamation of culture and dance that was rejoiced by every soul present there. It was indeed a jubilating evening.
