G.L. Bajaj Institute of Management & Research. PGDM Institute, Greater Noida conducted Business Summit 2020 on “Reorientation of HR Practices Post Covid 19: How to Adapt & Evolve!” on Saturday, July 04, 2020 for the students of PGDM Batch 2019-21 under the insightful headship of Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Vice Chairman, GL Bajaj Educational Institutions and in the patronage of Dr. Ajay Kumar, Director, GLBIMR.
The panel of the summit was graced by the esteemed presence of renowned industry leaders like Major General Dilawar Singh, Sr. Vice President, Global Economist Forum, AO ECOSOC United Nations, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, Ex Head, HR, Bajaj Power, Mr. Dilip Sinha, Head HR, JSW Steel and Mr. Rakesh Seth, Business Consultant, Facilitator, Author, Speaker, Ex -Tata’s, Shriram’s, Thapar’s, Anand’s, ACC-Everest, Lloyd.
The event started with invocation of Goddess Saraswati. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Ajay Kumar, Director, GLBIMR. During the session, Major General Dilawar Singh stated that HR is the most critical component in any organization and it has huge opportunities for transformation. He said that industries are facing shortage of inventory and added that educational institutions are closed for a long period of time. In today's situation of Covid-19 and due to lockdown, there is less revenue generation in various sectors and that’s why government is charging more for petrol and diesel. He added that IT companies have enhanced their productivity while practicing work from home. He further stated that business process re-engineering is here and reorientation of HR should focus on strategies. Mr. Sanjeev Kumar stated that the most important thing for HR is to know how to execute a plan into action. One should involve employees in decision making process so that they can share their opinion on organizational policies, health care, career advancement, etc and hence makes way for new ideas or suggestions. Before concluding, he said that it’s time to rethink and work for organization’s betterment. Mr. Dilip Sinha guided the youth of India to know how to implement the laws in different areas. He discussed four macro level aspects on which HR should focus - first is hiring i.e. HR should look for the perfect employee they can hire, second is process part i.e. how the processing is going on, third is technology to check whether the things are going in a smooth way or not and fourth is whole ecosystem. He elaborated that if you want to succeed then you must execute your plans into action. Mr. Rakesh Seth shared that due to Covid-19, offices have shut down and employees are being fired, so the main thing HR should focus on is the re-designing of policies, reorientation and maintaining employees’ morale as there is fear among employees about what will happen next. He said in today’s time HR should focus on digitization as everything is happening online from telephonic interviews to hiring. He suggested that HR should know public relation skills as they have to look for external stakeholders and have to maintain public relations with them.
It was a detailed and thought provoking session which gave a new perspective to understand various different aspects and also enhanced the knowledge of the participants. Finally the session concluded with Vote of Thanks.
