GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research. PGDM Institute, Greater Noida organized Workshop on "Cyber Safety" under Expert Talk Series on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 for the students of PGDM Batch 2020-22 under the patronage of Mr. Pankaj Agarwal, Vice Chairman, GL Bajaj Educational Institutions. The speaker of the session was Ms. Akancha Srivastava, Social Change Leader & Cyber Security Expert, Founder - Akancha Srivastava Foundation (India's Largest Social Impact Initiative Against Cyber Harassment).
During the session, Ms. Akancha Srivastava shared that technology had emerged as a great connecting medium nowadays and because of it, users were able to reach out to millions of people worldwide. She discussed about cyber safety and elaborated that cyber crimes happen due to the ill mentality of some users. She explained that revenge pornography or non-consensual dissemination of intimate and private data had emerged as a modern tool to threaten people. She discussed ‘Cyber Bullying’ and explained that it intimidates and stops people from expressing their opinions freely. She also explained ‘Impostering’ as a technique when one takes a fake identity and pretends to be someone else. She further explained Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) and advised people to stay cautious and not to display their personal life openly on social media platforms. She also shared that digital footprint helped to search information about a particular person that exists on the internet as a result of their online activities. She further elaborated that today’s young generation looks for validation and acceptance from others on Instagram, WhatsApp, etc and advised them to stop this and use internet wisely. She also encouraged all to stand up and fight back against any cyber crime that they had suffered and also motivated them not to feel ashamed about it. She concluded and suggested that cyber ethics must be followed by everyone so that technology could be used properly for the right reasons.
This workshop covered the basics of internet security and also made the students aware of the risks that exist on the internet, the things that could potentially go wrong and the precautions that could be taken to avoid them.
