Global Talk Series on Competency Development

GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research. PGDM Institute, Greater Noida organized Global Talk Series on "Competency Development for Meeting Industry Expectations" on Friday, May 21, 2021 for the students of PGDM Batch 2020-22 under the patronage of Mr Pankaj Agarwal, Vice Chairman, GL Bajaj Educational Institutions. The Guest Speaker of this session was Dr Rajnish Ratna, Associate Professor, Gedu College of Business Studies, Gedu, Chukha Bhutan.

The session started with an invocation to Goddess Saraswati. Dr Ajay Kumar, Director, GLBIMR welcomed the guest and discussed the relevance of competency and how it helped in the overall growth of the employees. He emphasized that a strategically developed competency development plan in an organization would take the employees towards the trajectory of success.

During the session, Dr Rajnish Ratna discussed the importance of competence and shared that 86% of the post graduates were unemployed due to the cut throat competition. He emphasized that employees’ performance was based on their abilities and they definitely performs better when provided motivation and healthy environment. He shared that personal attributes, knowledge, behavior and skills were the components of competency. He discussed the ‘Competency Iceberg Model’ and explained the types of competency i.e. functional, behavioral and technical. He further elaborated that Behavioral Competency includes managing emotions, stress management, conflict management and critical thinking. He also suggested the students to focus on Technical Competency to look for the latest technology and emphasized to incorporate it in their daily life.

Later on, Certificates were awarded to the winners of the event “AD MAD SHOW” organized by Marketing Club of GLBIMR.

This session helped the students to understand about competency, its development process to become ready managers, how to meet the industry expectations and how to fill the gaps in expectations.
